SYNOPSIS
The [Untitled Mother Project] is a collection of conversations, poetry, and movement featuring two artists who are seeking camaraderie and clarity at pivotal moments in their lives. These discussions include musings on the creative process, unlearning toxic theatre practices, abortion, compulsory heterosexuality, polyamory, and of course, their mothers. Kyra has been able to see enormous growth in her mother that still falls short of the ways Kyra herself is now intentionally practicing motherhood, which can sometimes lead to guilt and resentment from both parties. Tessa has seen no such improvements–and maybe even regression–in her mother, which is almost always a mirror of the work she has yet to do on herself and a confirmation of her decision to remain childless. They laugh, cry, debrief, and dance.
Devised by Tessa Gaffney and Kyra Montemayor Kelley
Kyra Montemayor Kelley (she/her) is a theatre artist, educator, and arts administrator. Her practice is heavily influenced by her role as a parent, bringing playfulness and curiosity to the processes of creation and administration.
Tessa Gaffney (she/her) is an actor, writer, arts administrator, and creative placemaker. She is committed to learning about nonhierarchical leadership structures and ethical theatre practices as she continues to explore the role of community-based theatre as a catalyst for connection, conversation, and change.
