VISITOR'S GUIDE
BorderLight 2022
Welcome back! It is with great pride that we build our 2022 Festival to illuminate the borders that divide us and foster reciprocal connections between Cleveland and the global community, especially as we move out of this period of isolation. After the last two years, we all deserve a jolt from the normal, and artists deserve a platform for their work. BorderLight will remain anchored in downtown Cleveland, in venues from Playhouse Square to Public Square, making the festival accessible to visitors from across the city and beyond. We will be thoughtful as we plan our 2022 Festival to make sure the safety of our patrons, artists, staff, and volunteers is foremost. On this page, you'll find answers to your questions, suggestions for how to fill your days, and details on all of our venues. Take a look!

BorderLight is committed to creating a safe experience for artists, vendors, and guests. The following precautions are being taken to ensure everyone’s health and safety:
VACCINATION PROTOCOLS
We reserve the right to update these policies based on current status of COVID cases in this region.
PATRONS | Vaccinations and boosters are strongly recommended but not required for BorderLight patrons at this time.
STAFF, VOLUNTEERS, ARTISTS | The BorderLight Festival requires all staff, volunteers, artists, and technicians to be fully vaccinated, as defined by the CDC.
You are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after a second dose of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine or two weeks after a single dose of the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. Boosters are recommended for anyone eligible, but are not required to be "fully vaccinated."
MASKING
OUTDOORS | A majority of BorderLight programming will take place outdoors. At this time, BorderLight does not plan to require social distancing or the use of masks at outdoor venues.
INDOORS | For most performances, BorderLight plans to comply with Playhouse Square's current guidelines, which do not require patrons to be masked inside the venue. Accordingly, BorderLight does not plan to require staff, artists or patrons to wear masks at indoor performances across the Festival footprint. However, wearing a mask indoors is strongly encouraged.
As an exception, in order to create opportunities for patrons who have health vulnerabilities to participate in the Festival, certain performances, which will be announced in advance, will require masks to be worn by audience members, staff and volunteers.
We will continue to follow CDC guidelines for masking, and will adhere to Playhouse Square's Covid policies as they evolve in response to the level of risk in Cuyahoga County. We will be ready to re-enact indoor mask mandates if indicated.

The “fringe” concept first developed in 1948 in Edinburgh, Scotland, when groups of local actors, performers, and musicians—in reaction to the more conventional lineup of the Edinburgh Theatre Festival—launched an alternative program to run concurrent to the main event. Now almost 73 years later, the term ‘fringe’ widely refers to work that resides on the edges of the mainstream—and fringe festivals have served as a critical launch pad for independent artists to self-produce, showcase original work, engage new audiences, and network with fellow indie artists and producers inside of a vibrant festival environment.
There are now 100s of fringe festivals in North America and across the world... and each has its own structure and personality.
The BorderLight Festival is a proud member of the United States Association of Fringe Festivals (USAFF) and World Fringe Network (WFN).
Because parking can be tricky, We recommend taking the Cleveland RTA to get to the festival.
Another great option is to join Bike Cleveland and ride your bike to the festival! Bike Cleveland will provide bike parking.
Thank you to our parking sponsor, ABM! For a list of ABM lots, click here.

Public parking is available at various parking lots and garages throughout downtown Cleveland, including the Playhouse Square parking garage. Many of these lots and garages are paid, and that cost is not included in your BorderLight ticket price.
If you're looking for valet parking, Playhouse Square will offer that for you.
You can also explore the Downtown Cleveland Alliance’s interactive parking map.
