Cloven

Jacob Henss & Betsy Brandt

OVERVIEW

An experimental dance-theatre piece that explores the dairy cow as a symbol of exploitation and femininity. Through surreal movement, burlesque, and ritual, it challenges how we consume bodies and meaning.

SHOW SYNOPSIS & details

as submitted by the artist(s)

The dairy cow is a site of industrialized sexuality and consumption, and the “Cloven” trilogy is an ode to this overlooked yet ubiquitous animal, symbol, and food source. This eccentric choreographic work lives at the intersections of experimental theater, contemporary dance, burlesque, and performance art. "Cloven has been restaged and performed throughout the Midwest, with the latest version for the Borderlight Theatre Festival in Cleveland, OH.
