In Visible Orbit

OVERVIEW

An original dance show by choreographer Greenhouse examines “invisible” disabilities and explores chronic illness under capitalism. They ask if any disabilities are truly invisible, or if society just refuses to see the needs of the disabled person.

SHOW SYNOPSIS & details

as submitted by the artist(s)

“In Visible Orbit” is an original disabled dance show that tries to ask more questions than it answers: What do we lose when we think of disability as a binary and not a spectrum? Is there something I could put on/take off/do/avoid that would make me seem more disabled? Do we label some disabilities as “invisible” to avoid seeing the needs and struggles of the person? Lead by a lifetime of observation and a love of disabled community, Cleveland choreographer Greenhouse performs a vulnerable show where the only body they’ve ever called home can do what it does best—explore, jump, crawl, fall, get sick, get better, get curious— for your eyes only. In turn, they invite you to look, think, feel, and interrogate your ideas surrounding disability.

What would it look like for your needs to be met? Would it feel like to be truly seen?
